The spouse of the 42-year-old musician, Ariana Cooper Whibley, confirmed that the singer had been battling pneumonia and expressed concerns that potential complications arising from the illness might have led to heart failure.

Ariana Cooper Whibley, who has been married to the “In Too Deep” hitmaker, Deryck Whibley, since 2015, shared a photo of the Canadian musician as he was wheeled into an ambulance, accompanied by two paramedics.
On Instagram Friday, Ariana, aged 32, expressed, “Deryck Whibley and Ariana were supposed to be in Chicago right then, celebrating their eight-year wedding anniversary, but the universe had a different plan for them.”
She continued, “They spent the entire night in the ER and will now be spending the next few days in the hospital as he fights through pneumonia.”
“The scariest part,” she added, “is that there is a lot of strain on Deryck’s heart, and the medical team is telling them that there is a possibility of heart failure.”
The couple, parents to three-year-old Lydon Idby and six-month-old Quentin Arlo, found themselves in a familiar but painful situation. Ariana, aged 43, reflected on her husband’s hospitalization, saying, “This situation isn’t new to us, but it stirs up difficult memories, seeing him connected to wires and IVs once again.”
In a social media post, Ariana shared a close-up photo of herself holding Deryck Whibley’s hand in the hospital. She acknowledged Deryck’s strength, saying, “I’ve witnessed his resilience, but it doesn’t make this any easier to bear. Please keep him in your thoughts over the next few days.”

In April 2014, Deryck Whibley faced a severe health crisis, collapsing in his kitchen due to liver and kidney failure. A week-long coma was required to detoxify his body from alcohol. This ordeal led to his decision to embrace sobriety. In a subsequent interview, he noted, “It happened at the right time in my life. I’m grateful it didn’t happen when I was older, as my body wouldn’t have coped. Now, I’m healthier than ever and in the best shape of my life.”
After Deryck’s hospitalization and Ariana’s struggle with depression and a suicide attempt, the couple embarked on their sobriety journeys together. Deryck stated in a 2021 interview with People, “We decided to take our lives seriously and work through this together.”
In May, Sum 41 officially announced their disbandment after a remarkable 27-year journey. The renowned punk band, composed of members Whibley, Baksh, McCaslin, Thacker, and Zummo, expressed profound gratitude to their dedicated fans, both long-time supporters and newcomers.
In their heartfelt statement, the band acknowledged the indescribable love and respect they hold for their fanbase and emphasized their desire to convey this message directly. Their final tour, which featured performances alongside The Offspring and Simple Plan, concluded on September 3rd.
