He acknowledges the significant shift in dynamics, explaining, “Your relationship with your 10-year-old, 5-year-old, or infants is vastly different from the one you have with a 15-year-old, 20-year-old, 25-year-old, or 30-year-old. It’s very different. I didn’t have the authority in my household to establish firm rules.”

Feeling “powerless” as a father figure, Kody acknowledges that his family began to “unravel” due to their inability to resolve differences. The COVID-19 pandemic negatively impacted their relationships, leading to tensions with various family members. Kody emphasizes the need to move forward, forgive, and find hope and joy after strained relationships.

Kody Brown is in the process of “finding a new normal” with his former wives and all of his children. One of his children, Gwendlyn Brown, who he shares with Christine, has openly expressed her complex relationship with her father, Kody.

In a YouTube video posted in February, the 21-year-old became emotional while reacting to an episode of Sister Wives in which Kody spent time with his and wife Robyn Brown’s children after school. Gwendlyn expressed her mixed feelings, saying, “I know I should be happy for them, but seeing him be an active father with these kids really hurts. It sucks not being able to see them.”

She explained the difficulty of feeling happy for her siblings receiving the parenting they need while feeling that she didn’t receive the same attention from her father. Kody has a total of 18 children from his plural marriage with Robyn, as well as his ex-wives Janelle, Christine, and Meri.

“It’s terrible that I’m making this about myself, but it hurts so much to see him be a good father to others when I didn’t really get that much. I know I should be happy for them and I am,” she expressed. “I’m so happy they have a good father, or what looks like to be a good father and an active father. But I just didn’t get that and I don’t remember that. I don’t remember coming home from kindergarten and seeing my dad and him being happy that I ate all my lunch or that I made a friend at school.”
